Reduced Wait at Sac Airport

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that two automated Global Entry kiosks are now available for use in the International Arrivals facility in Terminal B. Global Entry members arriving from international destinations use this technology-driven trusted traveler program that enhances security and expedites passengers through the CBP inspection process, reducing wait times for all arriving passengers.

Program participants proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.

Global Entry is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, lawful permanent residents, and citizens of certain other countries, including Mexican nationals. As an added benefit, Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in TSA Preœ"™, the Transportation Security Administration’s program providing expedited security screening when flying with approved airlines, including Aeroméxico.

“Our International Arrivals facility serves over 500 international arriving passengers a day on Aeroméxico from Mexico City and Guadalajara and Volaris from Guadalajara,” said Mark Haneke, Air Service Development Manager for Sacramento International Airport. “As SMF’s international passenger activity continues to grow, Global Entry is one solution to expediting travelers through the arrivals process and enhancing their experience as they end their journey in Sacramento.”

Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program and participation is voluntary.  Applicants pay a $100 non-refundable application fee and undergo a rigorous background check and interview before enrollment. Upon approval, membership is valid for five years.
