Davis, CA (MPG) - As part of national Constitution Week, come watch a special screening of Making a Nation: The Untold Story of the Declaration of Independence (1776) on September 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library.

This 70-minute episode, based on factual information, is the first in the series Inventing America: Conversations with the Founders. The episode will highlight the origins of the Declaration of Independence through an imagined retrospective panel interview of key players that shaped America. These key players include Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, as well as John Dickinson, a delegate who refused to sign, revealing conflict behind the historic event. The writer and executive producer will also discuss the production of this and upcoming episodes.

Along with this special screening, the Davis Branch Library is hosting a display about the Constitution throughout September featuring Constitution Translated for Kids by Cathy Travis, Constitution Café by Christopher Phillips, and this year’s new release on the Constitution by Joseph Ellis, The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution, 1783-1789. These events commemorate Constitution Week, which runs from September 17th through September 23rd, and celebrate and promote the study and education of the United States Constitution, adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on September 17th, 1787.

No reservations are required and all programs are free to attend. The Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library is accessible for persons with disabilities. Presented by the Yolo County Library, the Friends of the Davis Branch Library, and in partnership with Executive Producer Darell Schregardus.
