WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Construction is making progress on the West Capitol Avenue — Safety Enhancement & Road Rehabilitation Project. The primary goals of the project are to repair deteriorating pavement and enhance safety for all users by reducing unnecessary vehicular travel lanes, adding separated bike lanes, installing and retrofitting existing mid-block crossings, and adding street lighting to create safer pedestrian crossings.
Construction began on July 13, 2020. Currently, water utility installation and electrical utility installation is being completed at various locations. The construction will be completed in stages:
- Utility Improvements – Water, Electrical, and Fiber Optics (Internet) – Expected Completion Summer 2021
- Road Rehabilitation – Pavement Repairs – Expected Completion Fall 2021
- Signs and Striping – Buffered Bike Lanes, Lane Configuration, Crosswalks – Expected Completion Fall 2021
- Traffic Signal Improvements – Signal Heads, Detection System – Expected Completion Spring 2021
- Pedestrian Enhancements – Street Lighting, Sidewalks, Mid-Block Crossings and Crosswalks – Expected Completion Fall 2021
- The West Capitol Avenue Safety Enhancement and Road Rehabilitation project provides the foundation and framework for implementing the rendering above. The Urban Design Concept combines mid-town residential and mixed use residential with the future streetscape vision of the West Capitol Avenue corridor. Additional funding is needed to implement this plan.
