Local Businesses Invited to Join the Yolo County Workforce Innovation Board

WOODLAND, CA (MPG) - Yolo County’s Workforce Innovation Board (WIB) is actively recruiting local businesses to fill vacancies in the private business category. WIB is a 23-member board comprised of business, labor, education, non-profit, government and community leaders charged with convening partners and providing policy, planning and oversight for local and regional workforce development initiatives under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). WIB members represent the four Yolo County cities of Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and Woodland. Prospective private businesses interested in serving on the board must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be an owner, chief executive officer, chief operating officer or other individual with optimum policy-making or hiring authority; and
  2. Provide employment opportunities in in-demand industry sectors or occupations, as those terms are defined in WIOA sec. 3(23).
  3. Additional Business Representative Criteria to Consider:
  1. Business representatives may include economic development entities and chambers of commerce, when they are a private entity (for profit or non-profit) or a public-private partnership, but are not a governmental entity, and meet the WIOA requirements of a business representative.
  2. Business representatives should not typically include non-profits unless they are set up as a business cooperative. The exception would be a non-profit economic development or chamber of commerce organization.
  3. Business representatives should represent a business that offers employment opportunities.
  4. Business representatives should not be a sole proprietor or entrepreneur.
  5. Business representatives should not be a public sector employer, even if it is a major employer in the local economy.
