Caltrans Project Would Increase Vertical Clearance on Five Overpasses

COLUSA & YOLO COUNTIES, CA (MPG) - Caltrans is hosting a virtual meeting to gather comments from the community on a highway project 1  to increase the vertical clearance of five overpasses on Interstate 5 in Colusa and Yolo. The $31.4 million project includes $1.7 million from SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and the higher clearance will facilitate freight movement and accommodate taller trucks.

The online event starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 10. During the presentation, community members will learn about project alternatives, view displays and maps, and learn how they can review the environmental document, which is available for comment through March 25. Caltrans staff members will be available to answer questions and hear comments from the public.

The increased vertical clearance will allow taller trucks and vehicles, including those supporting national defense, to better navigate Interstate 5 from Oregon to the greater Sacramento region and San Francisco Bay Area. The increased clearance also eliminates the need for most high-profile vehicles to use local roads as detours. The structures are located at Lurline Avenue and E Street in Colusa County and in the city of Zamora and County Roads 95 and 96 in Yolo County.

SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
