WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Luscutoff family had a sweet Valentine’s Day this year, as their Mother, grandmother and Great-Grandmother Mary Luscutoff turned 100 years old!

There are not many (if any) people in our city that can say they are more of a community member than Mary. You see, on February 14, 1922, Mary was born by a Midwife, right here in Broderick/Bryte.

Mary’s family lived on Anna Street, back when their house was in farm country. Mary has never lived anywhere but West Sacramento… in a total of 3 houses. She will proudly tell you that she has lived in 2 brand new houses in her life. There is currently a painting of the family home above the sofa in her living room.

Mary will also tell you that she was one of 13 children born to her parents in the family home, though she is the only one still living. She says she is still alive because she never smoked and has never had a drink. Mary says she remembers all of the changes that have taken place in West Sacramento, and “there have been some big ones!” she said.

On Valentine’s Day evening, Mary’s family gathered at her home to help her celebrate her 100th birthday. Mayor Martha Guerrero showed up to meet Mary and surprise her with a Certificate of Recognition. Mary and her family were thrilled that the Mayor went there to wish her a Happy Birthday. “It only took me to turn 100 years old to meet the Mayor”, Mary said.

It was truly an honor for both the Mayor and myself to meet Mary, and we thank her family for inviting us in to share such a special moment with their family.
