Gerardo Pinedo, new Yolo County Administrator

WOODLAND, CA (MPG) – On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors reviewed a meeting agenda item to approve the selection of Gerardo Pinedo as the new County Administrator.

He currently serves as the Chief of Staff for a Los Angeles County Supervisor. He succeeded as one of three finalists – a strong candidate with more than two decades of experience in county administration. Mr. Pinedo replaces Interim County Administrator Chad Rinde.

Mr. Pinedo’s appointment follows two large-scale, nationwide recruitment searches. His distinguished career in public service spans 26 years, with expertise in budget and finance, organizational development, policy, legislation, pandemic response, labor negotiations, and media relations. His experience includes working in diverse communities, where his bilingual communication skills help him bridge the spectrum of cultural, linguistic, and economic backgrounds.

“I am humbled by the confidence that the Board of Supervisors has expressed in my ability to serve the residents of Yolo County. Upholding and promoting the strong values and rich traditions of our County's diverse population will be a very high priority in my work as Chief Administrative Officer,” said Pinedo. “I am excited to be joining a highly talented workforce, dedicated to high quality programs and to enhancing the lives of all people who live, work, and spend time in this great county. I look forward to collaborating closely with all communities and stakeholders as we collectively ensure the continued prosperity and bright future of Yolo County.”

Mr. Pinedo held two high-profile positions in Los Angeles County. He served as the Director of the Operations Support Bureau for the Department of Public Health and Director of Strategic Operations for the Department of Health Services; he oversaw workforces up to 5,000 people, budgets reaching $1.5 billion, and multi-year capital improvement programs of up to $2.3 billion.

A strong proponent of public education, Mr. Pinedo has taught public policy courses at California State University at Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and served as an Advisory Board Member at the CSUDH College of Business Administration and Public Policy since 2006. Mr. Pinedo earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees from CSUDH and also holds a law degree from Southwestern University School of Law.

Gerardo’s family immigrated from Mexico to the United States during the 1960s as farmworkers throughout the state of California, including the Central Valley.

“We’re excited to appoint someone with Gerardo Pinedo’s professional background to lead our organization and help us build a better future beyond the pandemic,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Angel Barajas. “His expertise in county operations, knowledge of county budgets, innovative program development, and depth in public policy allows him to hit the ground running. We look forward to working with him and his commitment to making Yolo County a community where residents and businesses will thrive.”

Mr. Pinedo will start as County Administrator on June 20, 2022.
