Second Wave of Disaster Relief Grocery Cards Disbursed
Jan 20, 2023 12:00AM ● By Yolo Food Bank News ReleaseWOODLAND, CA (MPG) - With additional financial support from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Yolo Food Bank will coordinate the distribution of 1,700 additional disaster relief grocery cards after a second storm on January 8 left thousands more without power. Grocery cards are available while supplies last.
“We are grateful to our partner agencies who are working tirelessly to distribute the disaster relief grocery cards to the most vulnerable residents they serve, and to PG&E for generously providing a total of 2,625 grocery cards to date valued at $40 each,” said Yolo Food Bank Executive Director Karen Baker. “This effort is critical to individuals who face everyday food security concerns, the grocery cards give community members the ability to purchase replacement food or emergency food that meets their dietary needs and cultural preferences.”
“This continued series of powerful storms has caused numerous challenges due to downed trees, localized flooding, and repeated extended power outages,” stated Yolo County Supervisor Lucas Frerichs. “I’m grateful for the work of the Yolo Food Bank helping to provide emergency resources in this time of need for our residents and our communities.”
Yolo Food Bank and its partner agencies are coordinating the distribution of 1,700 additional disaster relief grocery cards valued at $40 each for residents impacted by power outages.
Yolo Food Bank identified partner agencies located in the zip codes provided by PG&E with the highest concentration of power outages, who are consistently serving residents with access and functional needs facing food insecurity.
The distribution of gift cards will occur in the coming days. The ongoing storms have left many vulnerable residents of Yolo County with extended power outages. With financial support from PG&E, Yolo Food Bank and its local partner agencies will provide gift cards to local grocery stores located in the vicinity of affected households including Raley’s (Woodland, Knights Landing), Walmart (Clarksburg), Nugget Markets (Woodland, Davis), and Grocery Outlet (West Sacramento).
