WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - You know that Spring has arrived when you start hearing people talk about baseball and softball. West Sac Girls Softball (WSGS) was forced to cancel last weekend’s scheduled tournament due to the rain. Now everyone has their fingers crossed that Opening Day ceremonies won’t suffer the same fate. West Sac Girl’s Softball is the recreational and competitive youth softball league for girls 4 – 14.

In the last couple of years, the league has seen some generous support by local organizations. Last year, the playground was spruced up by Habitat for Humanities, Rock the Block program. In February, the Rivercats and Sutter Health Park partnered up to renovate the backstop of field #4 at the Alyce Norman Parks and Sports Fields Complex. These are the fields that the WSGS typically use for their season games and tournaments. With the help from Rivercats and Sutter Health Park, the City of West Sacramento was able to complete structural repairs to the girls’ softball backstop, ensuring the safety and longevity of the youth softball fields. Included in the renovation will be the complete removal of the old backstops prior to the installation of new posts and chain-link fabric as the structure is reassembled.

Now that repairs have been made and upgrades have been completed, the girls are ready to play ball! Opening Day Ceremonies are scheduled to take place at the Alyce Norman softball fields, located at 725 Todhunter Avenue on Saturday, March 16. Festivities will begin at 8:00 am, with the first games of the season scheduled to begin after the opening ceremonies. The softball games are a great place to enjoy being a fan, or becoming a fan, and get some good food from the snack bar! You’ll see lots of laughing and smiling along with some good old competition.

If you are interested in donating to the league, volunteering for the league, or want to contact league officials for any reason, email [email protected]. You’re also invited to visit for all of the updated information regarding the 2024 season.
