WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Congratulations to Jaliyah Davis and Brooke White, the first female athletes from River City High School to ever qualify for the California State track and field championships.

Three weeks ago, they were instrumental in winning the Metropolitan League Championships. Between them, they scored 66 of the team’s 135 total points. Jaliyah was league champion in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter runs (30 points), while Brooke was champion in the 100 and 300 hurdles, as well as second in both the triple jump and long jump (36 points).

They next ran in the sub sections and had to qualify in the top six in their events, then it was off to the masters meet against the best out of the section’s 151 schools. They had to be in the top three to get to the state meet, where they would compete against the state’s top athletes out of 1,609 schools. Brooke, a junior, and 4.36 GPA student, took fifth-place. Jaliyah, a senior Valedictorian, did not qualify for the final nine.

Once again, congratulations to league champions and school recordholders Jaliyah Davis and Brooke White.
