Board of Supervisors Seeking Applications for “At-Large” Planning Commissioner

YOLO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Yolo County Board of Supervisors is currently seeking applications for an upcoming vacancy on the Yolo County Planning Commission to fill an “at-large” position.  This position is for a person who resides anywhere in the County.  

Applications will be accepted until Dec. 20.

The legal duties and responsibilities of the Planning Commission include”

Consider and recommend to the Board of Supervisors amendments to the County’s General Plan and the other land use plans in the unincorporated parts of the County;

Consider and recommend amendments to the County zoning code;

Serve as the appellate body for discretionary staff decisions related to land use;

Review and act upon referrals or appeals from the Floodplain Administrator;

Act as the advisory agency on Tentative Subdivision and Parcel Maps;

Review and act upon applications requiring public hearings, including applications for conditional use permits and variances;

Act as the County Business License Appeal Board;

Act as the County Historic Preservation Commission;

Determine that there has been adequate environmental review under the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act, of all matters the Planning Commission is considering;

Perform such other functions as the Board of Supervisors may require.

There are no formal qualifications or prior experience necessary to apply for the position. Candidates should have an interest in land use and zoning policy.  The Planning Commission regularly meets monthly at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Board Chambers, 625 Court Street, in Woodland.  Monthly meetings typically range from two to four hours but can be longer depending on the number and complexity of the matters on the Commission’s agenda.  In addition, Commissioners can spend a few hours per month reviewing staff materials in preparation for hearings and meetings with constituents and County staff.
