YOLO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Elizabeth Esquivel and Maria Olmedo, representing West Sacramento, were among those at the Yolo County Board of Education’s final 2024 meeting being sworn in for the upcoming year.
During the Dec. 16 meeting, the board welcomed two trustees: Olmedo of Woodland was elected to her first term and Shelton Yip of Davis was re-elected to a four-year term.
New trustee Olmedo will serve a four-year term representing Trustee Area 3, which covers Woodland and a portion of West Sacramento. Olmedo’s oath of office was administered by her husband, Eduardo Jimenez.
The oath of office for Yip was administered by County Superintendent Garth Lewis. Yip has served for more than a decade on the Board of Education. In 2022, Yip was elected to a two-year term to complete the remaining term for Trustee Area 4, which covers central and southern Davis, following a vacancy. He was re-elected in November to serve another four years. Yip previously served as a trustee on the board from 2012 to 2020.
The December meeting was also the board’s annual organizational meeting. Trustee Armando Salud Ambriz of Woodland was elected president. Salud-Ambriz was elected to his first term on the board in November 2022. He is serving a four-year term representing Trustee Area 5, which covers Esparto, Woodland and Knights Landing.
Esquivel of West Sacramento was elected vice-president. Esquivel was appointed to the board in 2022 and elected to a four-year term in November 2022.
