SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Cosumnes River College (CRC) announced the retirement of assistant baseball coach and instructional assistant Jno Shuler, who has been part of Cosumnes River College Athletics for 25 years.

"Today's announcement is bittersweet for our department," said Collin Pregliasco, dean of Kinesiology, Health and Athletics and the athletic director on Aug. 11. "Jno has been an integral part of CRC Athletics and our baseball program since 2000. His dedication to our student-athletes on the field and through his work in our Athlete Learning Center has shaped the culture of our department in so many ways. His presence will be deeply missed but no doubt we will continue to build on what he has started."

During his time at Cosumnes River College as an assistant coach under Tony Bloomfield and Don Mico, Shuler helped guide the Hawks baseball program to 20 playoff appearances, four Big 8 Conference Championships and a 3C2A State Championship in 2012. Shuler’s coaching excellence was recognized nationally in 2022 when he was named the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) National Assistant Coach of the Year.

"Jno's leadership, dedication and unwavering commitment to the game and to CRC baseball, have left an indelible mark on every player fortunate enough to be coached by him," said head baseball coach Mico. "I consider myself incredibly lucky to have coached alongside him for the past 14 years…years filled with highs like the 2012 State Championship and countless playoff appearances, learning moments, as he helped teach me how to be a head coach, and plenty of laughter on long bus rides and conversations about baseball legends of the '70s, '80s and '90s."

In addition to his contributions with the baseball program, Shuler was instrumental in the development of the Athletic Learning Center at Cosumnes River College. What began as a converted equipment room storage closet became a thriving academic support space for student-athletes.

Shuler’s work, alongside Steve Krisiak, Cosumnes River College's coaching staff and fellow academic coaches Brandon Ellis and Shirley Murillo, helped create a transformational resource that continues to lead the way across the state for supporting student-athlete academic success.

"As he steps away from the field," Mico said, "Jno leaves behind a legacy built not just on victories but on character, mentorship and integrity. I was blessed to have him as a mentor, and most of all, a friend. I wish him a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement."

Shuler’s assistant coaching accolades included 20 3C2A Playoff Appearances in 2001 through 2012, 2014 through 2017, 2019 and 2022 through 2024; four conference championships in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2012; 2012 3C2A State Championship; and 2022 ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) National Assistant Coach of the Year.

"Jno is truly one of a kind," Pregliasco said. "His passion and support for our student-athletes made him more than a coach to those that worked with him or played for him. There is no doubt his athletes, coaches and staff are all better for knowing him."
