Major Injury Collision on Interstate 5 Near County Road 22

WOODLAND, CA (MPG) - On Friday, Oct. 31, at approximately 10:17 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch center began receiving calls reporting a two-vehicle collision involving a Toyota and a BMW on southbound Interstate 5, north of County Road 22, within the Yolo Bypass.
At approximately 10:21 p.m., the first CHP unit arrived on scene to assist the involved parties. Upon arrival, CHP Woodland units were initially unable to locate one of the individuals involved in the crash. Information was later received indicating that one of the parties may have fallen from the Yolo Bypass.
A CHP Air Unit was requested along with allied agencies, to assist in locating the missing individual. With assistance from the air unit, fire department and Yolo Sheriff’s office, the individual was located beneath the Yolo Bypass. The person was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. At this time, alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
