WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Veterans Day in West Sacramento was nothing short of extraordinary.
Immediately following the city’s Veterans Day Parade, Comcast hosted and fed 225 veterans and their families at the Hunt.Fish.Feed. Heroes Lunch in partnership with the Sportsman Channel and the West Sacramento VFW Post 8762. The energy inside the hall was electric; every seat was filled, laughter echoed, flags waved and gratitude flowed freely.
This event was more than a meal; it was a celebration of service, sacrifice, and community. Under the culinary leadership of Chef Paul Comes and the Hunt.Fish.Feed. team, Comcast volunteers prepared a menu that honored tradition and creativity: venison tacos, street corn salad, southwest coleslaw and fresh fruit salad. Judging by the smiles and empty plates, it’s safe to say the menu was a hit!
The Syncopating Sea-Monkeys from River City High School set the tone with lively music, while the Veterans of Foreign Wars rallied its members to welcome local veterans and their families.
“We are excited to share that Comcast is expanding into the area! Not only are we excited to bring our full suite of services to this community. We also prioritize investing in the communities we love and serve with events like this,” said Andre Selvyn, vice president of technical operations. “At Comcast, we believe that honoring service means more than just words; it means action. Since launching our Military Engagement initiative in 2015, we’ve hired over 21,000 military-connected employees nationwide, including more than 1,200 right here in California. Today’s event is a small gesture of gratitude for the big sacrifices you and your families have made.”
Hunt.Fish.Feed. is a national initiative led by the Sportsman Channel that uses wild game and fish to create nutritious meals for those in need. For nearly two decades, the program has served tens of thousands of meals across the country, combining outdoor traditions with community service. Bringing this program to West Sacramento on Veterans Day was a meaningful way to honor those who have served while giving back to the local community.
As part of Comcast commitment to West Sacramento, the company announced a $5,000 contribution to the West Sacramento Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8762 to support its ongoing work for veterans and their families. This contribution reflects the company’s belief that being a good neighbor means investing in the organizations that strengthen the heart of the community.
That day, Comcast volunteers didn’t just serve food; they served joy. From slicing and dicing in the kitchen to transforming the banquet hall into a warm, welcoming space, their dedication was evident in every detail. They also created appreciation stations where guests could color Veterans Day-themed images, write letters to service members and assemble treat bags for deployed troops and veterans in VA hospitals.
“This post has been my home for the last 10 years. We are here to help veterans in need. When someone says, ‘I lost everything and I don’t know what to do,’ we step up. We do this time and time again. Thank you to the City of Sacramento and thank you to Comcast for today’s event and contribution,” said James Brashear, representative from the West Sacramento Veterans of Foreign Wars.
