WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The City of West Sacramento is once again offering a unique opportunity for West Sacramento residents to learn more about their city government. The City of West Sacramento Community Academy is a free, seven-session program taking place from March 5 through April 28.
Participants will learn about the operations of various City Departments through an interactive, behind the scenes learning experience that is designed to be both informative and fun. Academy graduates will be prepared to advocate more effectively for policies and programs they support, to apply for advisory commissions, or to simply be better-informed about how their city operates.
Applications for the 2026 Community Academy will be accepted throughout the month of January 2026. Residents can apply at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/72CH9P8.
According to the City, the main goals of the Community Academy are to increase the knowledge of residents about the city, promote civic engagement, prepare future community leaders and provide networking opportunities.
All applicants must reside within the City of West Sacramento and must commit to attending all of the Community Academy sessions and notifying staff immediately if a scheduling conflict arises. The full schedule can be found at www.cityofwestsacramento.org/government/departments/city-manager-s-office/west-sacramento-community-academy.
All costs are covered by the City of West Sacramento. There are no application fees and all seven sessions will include dinner for participants. Most of the Community Academy sessions will take place at City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Ave., in the first-floor meeting rooms. Additional tour locations and instructions will be communicated to participants.
Participants may miss one session and still receive a graduation certificate. To get the full benefits of the experience, it is important to be present for all sessions. "Extra Credit” opportunities will be available.
An application process will be used to determine the participants in the Community Academy. Following the close of the application period, City staff will randomly select applications for consideration and will attempt to assemble a group that is geographically and demographically representative of the City’s diverse population. Selections and notifications will be sent to all applicants.
