WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Sierra Donor Services (SDS), the leading nonprofit organ procurement organization in Northern California dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation, is proud to expand its Lifesaver Nursing Scholarship Program to support Black, Hispanic and Filipino nursing students. In partnership with the Capitol City Black Nurses Association (CCBNA), the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), and Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City (PNAC3), SDS has established an annual scholarship program aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion within the healthcare field.

Sierra Donor Services proudly supports the vital work of Capitol City Black Nurses Association, National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City in advocating for nurses’ needs and improving health outcomes in communities affected by health disparities. Through this collaboration, Sierra Donor Services seeks to advance the recruitment, retention, and education of nurses, strengthening the pipeline of future healthcare professionals.

The scholarship program honored seven exceptional nursing students from three partner organizations. Karen Kurenty Laryea and Liwam Nerayo, representing Capitol City Black Nurses Association, were recognized at the 2nd Annual Scholarship Gala and Black Excellence event at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento, California.

Maria Espinoza, Leslie Rivas, and Alexandria Martinez, from National Association of Hispanic Nurses, received their awards during Sierra Donor Services’ Scholarship Luncheon at the Sierra Donor Services Office in West Sacramento, California.

Ma Milani Zabala and Mark Buan-Lagazo, representing Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City, were celebrated at the Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City Gala held at the Civic Center in Elk Grove, California.

“We are honored to expand our Scholarship Program to support Black, Hispanic, and Filipino nursing students through our partnerships with the Capitol City Black Nurses Association, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City.” said Sean Van Slyck, Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Donor Services.

The Capitol City Black Nurses Association (CCBNA) is a passionate organization focused on empowering Black nurses and improving health outcomes in underserved communities. By providing education, advocacy, and community engagement, the Capitol City Black Nurses Association strives to reduce health disparities and support the growth of a diverse and inclusive nursing workforce throughout the Sacramento region.

Philippine Nurses Association California Capital City (PNAC3) is dedicated to strengthening the image, professionalism, unity, and overall welfare of Filipino-American nurses in the Greater Sacramento Area. Its mission centers on fostering a supportive and collaborative community for these healthcare professionals.
