Sutter Health Park stands as a valued regional landmark and an integral part of Sacramento’s baseball tradition, dating back to 1869. The Sacramento River Cats play a significant role in inspiring young baseball fans in the area, encouraging them to pursue their own athletic aspirations. The accessibility of professional baseball, offering reasonably priced tickets and a convenient location, has enabled many in the region to experience games who might not otherwise have had the opportunity. In addition, Sutter Health Park has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability, waste reduction, and community engagement. Its programs serve a diverse community and contribute positively to the economic vitality of Northern California.

The City of West Sacramento nominated Sutter Health Park and the Sacramento River Cats for induction into the Hall of Honor in recognition of a more than 25-year partnership that brought professional baseball to the greater Sacramento region.

“When West Sacramento established the region’s first Stadium Financing Authority to construct Sutter Health Park in the late 1990s, we knew we were building something with lasting impact,” said West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero. “This Hall of Honor induction is a well-deserved recognition of the stadium’s enduring value to our community and the River Cats’ strong partnerships with local public agencies and businesses.”

Established in 2004, the Hall of Honor celebrates professionals, programs, facilities, collaborative partnerships, and foundations that have made a positive difference in the quality of life within the California Park and Recreation Society District 2 (CPRSD2).  Representing 19 counties in northern California, CPRSD2 is a public advocate for the California Park and Recreation Profession.

The Regional Treasure category honors historically significant programs, areas, or facilities, along with their sponsoring organizations, collaboratives, partnerships, individuals, and foundations.  To be eligible, the Regional Treasure must be located within the nineteen-county CPRS District 2 region and possess substantial historical importance, as well as a lasting, multi-generational impact on the region’s quality of life.
