YOLO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Do you know of an individual, business or organization in Yolo County whose actions promote democracy? Let their work be known!
Every year the League of Women Voters of Yolo County, a nonpartisan organization encouraging informed and active participation in government, presents its Democracy Works award to an individual and/or organization working to “empower voters and defend democracy” according to League officials.
The League is seeking nominees from throughout Yolo County whose actions support our citizens and democratic processes.
These actions may include encouraging equal representation, promoting free and fair elections, expanding voter education and rights, advocating legislation that promotes democracy and our communities, or taking grassroots political action.
Past recipients have ranged from President Lizette Navarette and Dean Shannon Reed of Woodland Community College for promoting access to students’ “power of voting” and Brown Issues for promoting civic engagement with voter education campaigns among youth to Tessa Smith for her work as Chair of the Multi-Cultural Community Council.
Nominations should be submitted between now and Sept. 1. All nominations should describe what the individual, business or organization has done to support our citizens and democratic processes.
To submit a nomination online or by mail, go to https://lwvyolo.org/democracy-works-award-open/. To request a nomination form directly, email [email protected].
An in-person event honoring the recipient(s) is being planned for this fall.
