WOODLAND, CA (MPG) - Yolo County announced Sept. 9 that it has received the 2026 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. This marks the third consecutive year Yolo County has received the national award.

“This recognition reflects the skill, care and professionalism of Yolo County’s Procurement team,” said Sheila Allen, chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. “Public procurement may not always be visible to the public, but it plays a key role in how we serve our residents, manage public funds and support the daily work of County government. I am grateful to the team for continuing to meet such a high standard.”

The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award recognizes public and nonprofit agencies that show strong practices in innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership and e-procurement. The award process asks agencies to document how their procurement programs support transparency, efficiency, accountability and sound use of public funds.

Yolo County’s Procurement Division supports departments across County government by helping secure the goods and services needed for public programs, operations and long-term projects. Through continued improvements to its e-procurement system, expanded vendor outreach, and ongoing staff training, the Division has streamlined purchasing, increased transparency, and strengthened service to departments across the County.

“The Procurement team is honored to receive this award for the third consecutive year,” said Tonia Murphy, deputy director of the Yolo County General Services Department. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the strong partnerships we have built with County departments to deliver efficient, transparent and responsible procurement services. Together, we continue to improve processes, expand access to contracting opportunities and ensure public resources are managed with integrity. We remain committed to fair, open and innovative procurement practices that deliver the best value for our community.”

For 2026, NPI recognized 251 public and nonprofit agencies through the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. This year’s program included 269 applications from 28 U.S. states and Canada. Award recipients included 54 counties nationwide, 59 agencies in California and 12 California counties.

Established in 1995, the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award is open to public and nonprofit organizations. The program is designed to encourage continuous improvement and recognize procurement as a key part of good governance.

This recognition supports the goals of Yolo County’s 2024–28 Strategic Plan, including responsible stewardship of public assets, operational excellence and support for a thriving local economy.
