YOLO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - On Sept. 19, my office hosted our Annual Coastal Cleanup, marking my 10th year hosting this event in our community. More than 40 volunteers joined us this year to clean the area across from the Barge Canal, collecting trash and other large items along the river. 

Keeping our waterways clean is important for our community and for the wildlife that depends on them. Debris and waste can be harmful to birds, fish and other animals that live near the water.

 I want to thank the California Coastal Commission for helping us register our cleanup site and providing supplies. I also want to thank the West Sacramento Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team and the City of West Sacramento’s Parks Team for their help.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who spent part of their Saturday with us to give back to the community and help keep our waterways clean. The cleanup takes place each year on the third Saturday in September.
